Earth System Science by Discipline

Break out sessions will facilitate thinking about the future of specific areas of Earth system science.  The following questions are designed to guide the break-out discussion:

  • What are you working on now? Is it a grand challenge?
  • What do you expect to be working on in 5 years?
  • Do you see the key questions as domestic (i.e. within the current field of ESS, process-based) or cross-disciplinary (i.e. system wide, involving links with non ESS disciplines, or assimilation of many disciplines)?
  • If interdisciplinary, does the work reach beyond the science?
  • How are the disciplines of sustainability science and ESS related?
