inflow jet, air flows upward and rearward over the cold
pool.
•This flow is called
“front-to-rear flow” (the long red arrows).
•As the cold pool deepens
and the outrush proceeds, the updrafts within the
front-to-rear flow attain a greater tilt.
•The clouds extend
further to the rear of the original line of
thunderstorms.
•These clouds become the
trailing stratiform region and can lead to significant
rainfall.
