Null Hypothesis
qUsually, the null hypothesis and its alternative are mutually exclusive. For example:

q     H0: The means of two samples are equal.
q     H1: The means of two samples are not equal.
q
q     H0: The variance at a period of 5 days is less than or equal to C.
q     H1: The variance at a period of 5 days is greater than C.
q
Hypotheses that we formulate with the hope of rejecting are called null hypothesis and are denoted by Ho.
