An occluded front can be formed by the different ways. First, an
occluded front can be created when a cold front meets the warm front
ahead of it, and the cold front cuts off the warm air mass from the
surface. Second, some occlusions form when the center of low pressure 
changes its shape and moves away from the intersection of the cold and
warm fronts. Third, occluded fronts occur when the junction of the cold
and warm fronts moves along the warm front. Finally, a combination of
distinct surface and upper-level processes can also generate an occluded
front. In this case, a cold front overtakes a warm front at low levels,
when an upper-level frontal zone merges with the surface front.

With the approach of the warm front, the warm air starts to rise along
the gradual frontal boundary, and generates a sequence of clouds, such
as nimbostratus, altostratus, cirrostratus, and cirrus. Then, with the
approach of a cold front, the cold air mass converge on the warm air
ahead and displace it upward. The uplift of the warm air can develop
cumuliform clouds, and produce heavy precipitation.
